作品说明

The song feels infinite in the air, the picture in the earth, the poem in the air and the earth; For its words have meaning that walks and music that soars. -- Tagor This art song collection features settings of Chinese and American poems exploring similar themes from different perspectives. Beginning with the renowned Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai, the cycle explores recurring themes such as the moon, childhood, and spring. The vivid imagery in each poem suggests opportunities for various kinds of vocal settings. In the Chinese language, the word for "poetry" (诗歌) encompasses both poems and songs—revealing an inherent musicality in ancient Chinese literature. Nearly all classical Chinese poems were composed with the intention of being sung. In the realm of Western classical music, the art song offers a parallel form, where literature and music converge to create a deeply expressive medium. The cycle’s title is drawn from a book by Zhao Yiheng exploring cross-cultural dialogue between Chinese and American poetics, demonstrating how different languages and traditions shape—but also reflect—similar human experiences and perceptions of the world.
