Program note

Life is an unknown dance. There's a certain rhythm set by external circumstances such as peers and society, but we can choose whether to dance with it or not. Sometimes there’s sudden disruptions, but we can still maintain our subjective initiative within those limitations. This piece has a strong association with the theme melody throughout. Creating a feeling that waltzes in a dilemma but each turn is different. There's tribute to Brahms, who cultivated my early musical aesthetic with lush harmony, lyrical melody and extreme romanticism. Unknown Dance for piano trio is the first piece I wrote after I enrolled in the composition department. At that time, I had just experienced the most intense ups and downs in my life—-an unexpected injury disrupted my path as a pianist, leading me to learn composition and transfer. Everything is so unplanned and turbulent, offering me a glimpse of so-called fate.
